Harmon says Labour is fortified

Harriet Harmon says with the new leader, Ed Miliband, Labour will soon be inited and fortified.  Harmon further said losing the general election was hard but they are now a fierce team.  All of this after David Miliband quit front bench politics after his younger brother beat him.  He lost the election by just 1%.  She also praised Ed Miliband, telling delegates: “We will all be united in support of him.”    BBC

Harmon said about the new government, she was disappointed in the opposition but but proud of what they achieved as a government.  She Labour is now a powerful mix of youth and experience.  Some of them are of the Facebook generation….how is that experience?  Harmon told delegates that Labour was “sobered by the scale of the challenge that lies ahead” but “fortified” by the determination of the new leader.Labour was “sobered by the scale of the challenge that lies ahead” but “fortified” by the determination of the new leader.   BBC

The conference finished in traditional fashion – with members singing the Red Flag and Jerusalem.  Ms Harmon was asked if she thought the Labour party would be weaker without David Miliband, and she replied no.  She said the attention given to David Miliband’s “throwaway remark” to her during his brother’s conference speech on Tuesday showed the excessive attention he would have faced, had he remained on Labour’s front bench.

She concluded in her speech that she would like to play a big role in the Labour party, but exactly what role would depend on Ed Miliband.
