In these bleak economic times, what gets me is how these school teachers say if they don’t get that raise, they will go on strike, or they complain about the amount of kids in their classrooms. If we think back in our day, the teachers taught, never had aides, and thought nothing of class size….we even had 40-45 in each class, and we all learned….those who didn’t stayed after school, for an hour, and got special tutoring….
As for the raise, I think they are lucky to have a job. Many today don’t, and they get paid for sitting on their butts 180 days out of year. Not bad considering the economy….perhaps the whole aide part should be tossed out, make teachers work, and pay be based on merit. Either that or go to the charter school system….
But let’s look at this realistically….here we have so many immigrants coming in, and all we hear are they deserve an education too. No one has even addressed that aspect….they are adding to the class oversize issue….the more a population grows, the more impact on the system in that area.
If more energy was put into the students, instead of demanding raises, and get up and do their job, we wouldn’t have this problem…do what you were hired to do, as generations of teachers before you did, teach….as is, the pay is good considering you only work 180 out of a year…many people don’t have jobs….
